Campania
In March of 2022, I took my first trip to Campania in Italy. I met several great producers, but one that stuck out, and a producer that I’m the first to work with in the United States is Francesca Fiasco. She is a young wine producer, with just a couple of vintages under her belt. While her parents were not in the wine business, her grandfather is a wine grower who historically sold off his grapes. When I went to visit her, he was working in the vineyards. He is 90 years old, and present every day for pruning and taking care of the vines. Really amazing. Rather than lose this amazing work that her grandfather has been doing, she started a very small winery. Located in the Cilento national park in Campania, these remote vineyards produce both red and white grapes. Her white wine, called Lapazio is a blend of Fiano, Falanghina and Coda di Volpe. It is really a beautiful wine, floral, with stone fruit, minerality, and medium weight.
